Fresh from Fulling Mill and ready to fish—the Hare’s Ear & Green Drop Sedge is back in stock and ready to earn its place in your fly box.
Evening rises are where the magic happens—fish leaping, swirls on the surface, and that buzz in the air as light starts to fade. When trout are launching themselves like missiles, this is the pattern I tie on.
When you see trout leaping like that, it’s not just surface fuss—they’re accelerating to hit something fast-moving, like a sedge fly. I reckon the leap is the after effect of them hitting the fly at full speed. That’s why this pattern, fished right, is absolutely lethal.
How I fish it:
Single fly, floating line, light leader.
Cast out, let it sit, then give it a gentle twitch—mimicking a sedge trying to escape.
Or go for a fast, skimming retrieve to create a proper wake—especially effective when the fish are on the hunt and looking up.
The Hare’s Ear body gives it that natural buggy look, while the Green Drop wing adds flash and movement that trout can’t resist.
Stock arrived today—get them while they last from the N Roberts Signature Flies range. You won’t want to be without this one when the rise kicks off.
